Diversity
- Differences among people in terms of language, religion, food, clothes, customs, festivals, etc.
What Makes Us Different?
- People are different in:
- Appearance
- Language
- Religion
- Region they come from
- Culture and customs
- These differences make India a diverse and rich country.
- People are different in:
Prejudice
- Prejudice means to judge other people negatively or see them as inferior.
- Ex- if we think English is the best language and other languages are not important, we judging these other languages negatively
- Prejudice means to judge other people negatively or see them as inferior.
Stereotype
- When we fix people into one image we create a stereotype.
- Stereotypes stop us from looking at each person as a unique individual with his or her own special qualities and skills that are different from other
- Discrimination happens when people act on their prejudices or stereotypes.
Discrimination
- When people are treated unequally or unfairly because of prejudices.
- Example: Not allowing someone to enter a temple because of their caste.
- When people are treated unequally or unfairly because of prejudices.

- Religion
- Caste
- Economic background
- Gender

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Life
- Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar (1897-1956) is considered the father of the Indian constitution
- He is best known as leader of the Dalits.
- He was born into the Mahar caste, which was considered untouchable.
- He was the first person from his caste who completed his college education and went to England to become a lawyer.
- He encouraged Dalits to send their children to school and college
- He led many effort for the upliftment of Dalits.
- Later in life he converted to Buddhism in his search for a religion that treated all members equally.
- Dr Ambedkar believed that Dalits must fight the caste system and work towards a society based on respect not just for a few bur for all.
Inequality
- Inequality happens when resources, opportunities, or respect are not shared equally.
The Constitution and Equality
- The Indian Constitution says everyone is equal before the law.
- It bans discrimination based on caste, religion, gender, etc.
- Promotes dignity and respect for all individuals.
